BC Housing - Seniors Supportive Housing program:
BC Housing develops, manages and administers a wide range of subsidized housing options across the province. They work with the ministry responsible for housing to address critical gaps across the housing continuum, which range from emergency shelter and rent assistance in the private market to affordable home ownership.
BC Housing works with about 800 housing providers and help more than 110,000 households in communities across British Columbia. The Seniors’ Supportive Housing Program provides housing and support services to older adults, seniors and people with disabilities. The Program assists low-income British Columbians who are 55 years of age or older, and people of any age who have a disability or diminished ability.
BC Housing works in partnership with the private and non-profit sectors, provincial health authorities and ministries, other levels of government and community groups to develop a range of affordable housing options. BC Housings main objective is to only assist seniors who are:
    - Low-income seniors and families
    - Individuals who are homeless
    - Individuals with disabilities
    - Indigenous individuals and families
    - Women and children at risk of violence
    - Low-income seniors and families
    - Buyers of new homes
To qualify for seniors housing you must be aged 55 and older, or age 55 and under and on a disability pension or not able to work due to a disability with doctors note. People who qualify pay 30% of gross household income (this system of pricing is referred to as Rent Geared to Income – RGI). A point score system is used to assess need and your point score is compared to others applying. Those with the highest point score, that is, showing the greatest need, are given first priority. You could get help with paying the rent, subsidized housing or adapting your home.
BC Housing offers a range of housing assistance programs, as well as affordable or subsidized housing for senior renters with low to moderate incomes. BC Housing manages public housing in BC and maintains the housing registry, a subsidized housing listing and application service. The housing registry includes public housing, non-profit, and co-op housing.
Affordable Rental Housing:
Affordable rental housing is for people who have a low-to-moderate income but may not be eligible for subsidized housing. Search and apply for affordable housing such as co-operatives with Housing Listings. Affordable rental housing is housing with rents equal to, or lower than, average rates in the private-market.

Subsidized Housing:
If you live in BC, have a low income and meet eligibility criteria, you may qualify for subsidized housing. Subsidized housing is long-term housing for people who permanently reside in British Columbia. Rental fees are calculated on a rent geared to income basis (30% of household total gross income, subject to minimum rent based on # of people). You may be eligible for subsidized housing if you can live independently and meet the household, residency, income and assets criteria.
